John Walega Obituary

John Walega, Jr., 89, long-time resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack on July 10, 2025, after a period of declining health.

John was born in Manchester on June 24, 1936, to John, Sr., and Ethel (Harrington) Walega.

He graduated from Central High School, N.H. Technical Institute in Manchester and Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell, MA, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

From 1961 to 1964, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

On December 28, 1963, John married his wife of 61 years, Therese (Levasseur), at St. Peter's Church in Auburn. Together, they shared a deep bond and many happy years.

John worked for over 25 years as Chief Designer and Cost Estimator at Hollis Automation and Cooper Industries in Nashua.

He then founded John Walega and Company Insurances with his partner and wife, Therese.

Later, he worked at CSI in Londonderry as Cost Estimator.

John was disciplined, had strong values and was very loyal. He willingly assisted anyone who needed help. He could be very quiet but then surprise everyone with his great sense of humor.

In his younger years, he enjoyed ballroom dancing, mountain hiking, skiing, rock hunting and playing chess.

He was interested in gardening and was adept at working on carpentry, as well as on other home-related projects.

He enjoyed traveling inside the U.S., as well as internationally.

John is survived by his wife, Therese; his sister Nancy Pratt and brother-in-law Jim of Londonderry; his brother William Walega and sister-in-law Betsy of Hollis; his brother Don Walega of Candia; his sister-in-law Joanne Walega of Concord; his brother-in-law Jorge Alonzo of Silver Spring, MD and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both parents, and by brothers Richard Walega and Robert Walega.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester and to the staff at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack for the exceptional care given to John during his final days of life.
