John Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gant Funeral Homes - Yorktown Chapel on Jul. 21, 2025.
John Thomas Walker, age 96, of Yorktown, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most. A devoted husband, father, and proud grandfather, U.S. Navy veteran, and master home builder, he lived a life marked by integrity and hard work - the kind that he has passed down to generations.

John was born on January 5, 1929, in Wright County, Missouri to the late Toliver and Nora Walker. John answered the call to serve with honor in the United States Navy. His time in the military, including his post in Panama, gave him experiences he carried and shared for the rest of his life.

After returning home, he taught his family what it meant to work hard. He built a life rooted in craftsmanship and dedication at Warner Gear for 44 years. As a skilled home builder, he brought not only wood to life-but a space that welcomed a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories for his family. Known for whistling while he worked, his strong hands and steady rhythm spoke volume about the pride he took in honest labor.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Edain Mae Walker; daughter, Willa Pitzer (Walter); two sons, Royal Walker (Jill) and Marvin Walker (Margie); 11 Grandchildren; and 13 Great Grandchildren. His memory will echo in the stories retold, the lives he made whole with both grit and love

John was lovingly reunited with his parents; siblings; 1 grandson, John Pitzer; and 1 great grandson, Zane Davis.

A funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Steve Duggar will officiate. Burial will follow in Yorktown Overmire Cemetery. John's pallbearers include: Mark Pitzer, Scott Midkiff, Todd Crase, James Pitzer, Chad Davis and Greg Hazlerigg each of whom carries not just his casket, but a part of his legacy in their hearts.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
