John Waugh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stetson’s Funeral Home - Brunswick on Feb. 13, 2026.
BRUNSWICK - John H. Waugh, Jr., 73, born on December 15, 1952, in Rumford, ME, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. We want to thank Michael DeAngelis and the staff at Gosnell for the care they provided for John in his final days. John, a loving and talented individual, spent most of his life in Portland before settling in Brunswick, Maine. John dedicated his life to the people and things he loved most: his family, his wide circle of friends, and his many passions.

He was an accomplished genealogist and had a huge collection of Fiestaware. In the 1970s, he owned and operated Art Deco Antiques in the Old Port in Portland. His love for gardening and nature was a sign of his nurturing spirit. John had a knack for maintaining long, loyal friendships, as evidenced by friends from faraway states who came to say goodbyes to him in his final days. His love for card games, especially canasta, was well-known among his friends and family; he always insisted on being the scorekeeper. We would tease John about wanting the "pencil advantage".

John is survived by his domestic partner, Gilbert Peterson. His sister Barbara Laramee, his brother and sister-in-law David and Janet Waugh, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Sr., his mother, Dorothy, and his siblings Lorainne Cyr, Jackie LaChapelle, Carole Pratt, and Gregory Waugh. The void left by his departure will be hard to fill, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

John's memorial service and committal will be held in the spring.

John's life was a testament to his loving, supportive, talented, and smart nature. His family and friends are invited to share memories and upload photos to his memorial page at www.stetsonsfuneralhome.com as a tribute to his remarkable life.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson's Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine.
