John Blake Weiger, age 69, of Rhinelander passed away on September 23, 2023 at UW Hospital, Madison, WI. He was born on May 19, 1954 in Oak Park IL, the son of Erwin A. Weiger and Anna T. (Kochelski) Weiger.
He married Dianne Tembreull on July 10, 1976 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. John was a 1972 graduate of Driscoll Catholic High School and later attended college at Michigan Tech majoring in forestry. He worked in the logging industry most of his life by every method imaginable including horses and helicopters.
John is survived by his wife Dianne Weiger of Rhinelander, daughters Charise (Von) Saunders and Alicia (Phill) Oettinger, and grandchildren Gavin and Gage. He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncle Joseph Jr, Aunt Wanda, and Aunt Margaret.
John was always the life of the party; you could hear him from a mile away talking, sharing stories, and making others laugh. John enjoyed taking his grandson Gavin to boy scouts and was an Eagle Scout himself. He was extremely active and most recently spent his time building a new house, constructing a model railroad, golfing, camping, fishing, and sitting in his sauna. He loved traveling and some of his most memorable trips were to Banff, Yellowstone, Glacier, Mexico, Finland, and Sweden.
John was deeply loved by his family and friends. In keeping with his wishes, John’s immediate family will privately celebrate his life. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to plant a tree or donate directly to the Weiger family for the future purchase of trees for planting. Donations may be sent to the Cress Funeral Home, c/o Weiger Family, 6021 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705 and all donations will be directed to the family.
