John Christopher Welborn, of King George, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at the age of 54. He was born on July 23, 1971, the beloved only child of John Welborn and Ann Welborn.
John, known to many as Chris, was a gifted musician whose life revolved around music and the people he loved. His passion for performing, booking shows, and sharing music with others was unmatched. It was how he expressed himself, how he connected, and how he lived. He was fiercely loyal and protective of those he cared for, always putting others before himself.
A lover of jazz, rock, 70s and 80s metal, 90s progressive, and country, Chris found joy in every note and rhythm. Music was not just his career; it was his calling. His son, Matthew Mills, remembers countless late-night talks, even at 2:30 a.m., when his father was always there to listen and guide him. Together, they shared a deep bond, from scenic drives along Skyline Drive watching the seasons change, to listening to old radio shows and podcasts, and tackling burger challenges at local restaurants. Matthew will never forget his first concert, which his father took him to at age 13 - Iron Maiden - a moment that sparked his own lifelong love of music.
Inspired by his father's unwavering passion for music, Matthew has followed in his footsteps and built his own career in the field, a legacy of melody and heart that will live on through him.
Chris is also survived by his loving companion, Erin Harnett, with whom he shared many cherished years. Their story was one of serendipity and reconnection. After meeting years ago through a mutual friend, Jason, they eventually found their way back to each other when Chris ran into Erin's sister at a pagan store. From that moment, they were inseparable.
Chris will be remembered not only for his music but for his kindness, his humor, and the way he made everyone feel like family. Even during his time in the hospital, friends from near and far reached out, visited, and surrounded him with love, a testament to the impact he had on so many lives.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
