I knew a John Welka when I lived on Townsend Street in Buffalo in the 50s. I think we went to St Ann´s school together. I remember visiting him at his home after he had broken his leg one year. Sorry to hear he´s gone on.

I went to Bishop Turner High School with John, and played on the Freshman and Junior Varsity Basketball Team with him (John went on to play on the Varsity Team, because he was a skilled player, whereas I left the Team, and the the School, after my Sophmore year, and never saw him again. I remember John as a very skilled player, a "Team Leader", and a "solid person"who also had a good sense of humor. I recall that his goal always seemed too be to get us to the Basket, without any special "Theatrics", and I would guess that is how he may well have lived his life as an adult, in his Career, and as a Family Man: Solid and Dependable, with enough of a sense of humor, and Goodwill, to make him valued, and even loved, by those around him. He was a decent and competent person, whom I remember fondly, and I feel certain that he is dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of sharing more of his life than I did. I just spent s couple of years, in High School with him, yet all my memories of him are good ones.
