John Wells Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 21, 2025.
John Marion "Jay" Wells III, aged 56, of Tallahassee, Florida, died peacefully in the early morning hours of October 17th, 2025. His departure followed a long and courageous battle with cancer, during which he demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience.

Jay was born on April 12, 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent the majority of his life in Tallahassee, Florida-a city he loved and called home. A proud alumnus of the University of Florida, Jay majored in Political Science and History and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His amazing analytical insight led him to a successful career as a Business Analyst, where he worked with several major organizations. Among his most meaningful contributions was his work with Florida Healthy Kids, helping advance the Florida KidCare project to ensure health insurance access for children across the state.

Jay was a loyal and giving friend, known for his unwavering support and generosity to those fortunate enough to be in his circle. He was a devoted son and brother, and his presence brought comfort and strength to his family. A lifelong Florida Gators football fan, Jay never missed a game. He was also an avid gun enthusiast, a passion he shared with his father. Together they curated an impressive collection of vintage and other interesting firearms.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jay's name to Big Bend Hospice, whose compassionate care reflects the spirit of giving that Jay embodied throughout his life.

Jay is survived by his father, John Wells Jr., of Tallahassee, and his sister, Wendy Alison Wells, of Neptune Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his dear mother, Ada Alice (Peacock) Wells. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
