John "Scott" West, 63, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, at his home. He was born December 10, 1962, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of John R. West, Jr. and Wanda D. (Smith) West, who both preceded him in death.

Scott, lovingly known as "Scotty" by family and friends, was a proud graduate of the Thompson State School in Sedalia, Class of 1980. He was instrumental in the founding of the Thompson State School alongside his mother and sister, Linda Coats. For 43 years, Scotty made his home at the Martin Group Home, where he was lovingly cared for by Kathy Martin of Sedalia.

Scotty enjoyed the simple joys of life. He loved listening to country music, eating McDonald's hamburgers, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He especially looked forward to visiting his sister's home for special occasions and holidays, moments that brought him great happiness.

Scotty is survived by his sister, Linda Coats (Mike) of Sedalia; his brother, William LeRoy West (Jessica) of Grain Valley, Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dear friends and housemates at the group home.

In addition to his parents, Scotty was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Dehling; and a brother, Robert Joseph West.

A celebration of life with family and friends will be announced by the family at a later date.
