Edward John Wieferman, "Big John," age 83, of Herron, MI, passed away on March 13, 2026 in Bascom, FL.

He was born on November 12, 1942, in Detroit, MI to the late Edward John and Bernice Catherine Wieferman (nee Carrier). He graduated from Austin Catholic Preparatory School in 1960 and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit. He was a lawyer and worked in his family's business.

Big John had two children, John and Carl, with his first wife. He married Vee in 1976 and became a step-dad to Barb, Dwayne, and Sharon.

Big John was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Marianna, FL, and would light the candles before services. He also attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hubbard Lake, MI, and was a member of their golfing group.

Everyone who knew Big John knew how much he loved golfing. He played baseball when he was young, and coached his sons when they were young. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well.

Big John was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice; father, Ed; brother in law, Sam Alli; son, John, "Little John"; and granddaughter, Maurina Mattison.

He is survived by his wife, Vee Wieferman; brother, Gary Wieferman; sisters, Susan O'Connor (Micheal), Nancy Alli, and Patricia Seger (Robert); son, Carl Wieferman; step-son, Dwayne (Angelique) Mattison; step-daughters, Barb Mattison and Sharon (Richard) Marchinski; grandchildren, Brandon Marchinski, Ryan Mattison, Matthew Mattison, and Cassia Marchinski; nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Conley Family.

Big John will always be remembered for how approachable, friendly, and kind he was. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.

Memorial donations can be made to Ascension Lutheran Church in Marianna, FL or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

There will be two services, one in Florida and one in Michigan.

The service in Florida will be at Ascension Lutheran Church in Marianna, Florida on March 28, 2026 at 11 am.

The service in Michigan will be announced at a later date.

Any flowers donated through this website's link will be sent to the service in Florida. If anyone wants to send flowers to the service in Michigan, when the service is announced a local florist will be listed.
