John Russell Willerton passed away on December 22, 2025 in Syracuse Utah. John was born on February 2, 1944 in Waukegan, IL, to James and Katherine Willerton.
After High School Graduation, John joined the Air Force and later joined the Navy. John attended Utah State University where he met his life-long sweetheart, Linda Mamanakis on a blind date. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on March 19, 1964. They welcomed four children to their family: Mark Steven, Heather Elizabeth, Justin Layne, and Jeremy Dean.
John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. At the time of his passing he was serving in the Syracuse Temple. He was a mathematics teacher and taught many students in Weber and Davis School districts. Upon retirement, John and Linda served service missions. His favorite things were his dogs, gardening, going to Bear Lake, traveling, reading, bee keeping and Bountiful Baskets.
John is survived by his four children and their spouses – Mark (Britnee), Heather (Gary) Green, Justin (Brooke), and Jeremy (Alyson). He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and 6 ½ Great-Grandchildren, his brothers Jim (Connie) and Jeff (Suzanne). He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
There will be a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Saturday December 27, 2025 at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1585 W 300 S, Syracuse, UT. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 am at the Syracuse City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Missionary Fund for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or the Humane Society under his name.
