John Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yanac Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. on Dec. 30, 2025.
It is with great sadness that the family of John Derek Williams Sr., age 68, of Tobyhanna, PA, announces his passing on Friday morning, December 26, 2025, at his home.

John, known to many as "JD," was born on November 9, 1957, to James Moore and Hortensz Williams in New York City. He graduated from the New York City school system and faithfully served his country in the United States Army for 28 years, with his final duty station at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. John was also employed by the New York City Transit Authority for over 25 years as a Farebox Technician before retiring.

In addition to working full time, John was a jack of all trades. He was always willing to help others and sought to support people in building a better life for themselves. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved Denise L. Baston; sons, John D. Williams Jr., Jason D. Williams, Joshua D. Williams, Jordan D. Williams, and James Baston; daughters, Naquisha (Tarrance) Lesley, Chakea (Ramier) Wilcox, Nicole Strong, Shantiva (Kenneth) Durant, and Shantea Strong; along with many grandchildren and extended family members.

A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Leanon Trawick on January 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Full Gospel Holiness Church, 167 Summit Avenue, Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Yanac Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, where online condolences may be sent @www.yanacfuneralhome.com

JD has been a friend of mines for over 35 years. JD was a very kindhearted man. He showed his love to his family, his children and grandchildren and anybody that knew him. I will miss our talks, and the special bond we had in the common things we shared. The 99th Signal Family has lost a Good Soldier, a great family man and a great friend. My buddy is no longer in any pain, you´ve gained your wings. You´ve done all you can do, so take your rest no more worries. I will miss you dearly,
May you rest in eternal peace, until we meet again.
My sincerest condolences to the family of John Derek Williams,
You are in my prayers.
