Publish in a newspaper

John Alden Wilmot, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Plainfield NJ, he spent his formative years in Dunellen NJ with his mother Emily, sister Carolyn and next door to his grandparents Mabel and Alden Walton. His father John Alden was deceased in active service in WWII.

John attended Dunellen High School and competed on the track team. After high school, John went to Trinity University in San Antonio, TX and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. John dedicated two years of his life to the Peace Corps in the Fiji Islands where he taught biology. While in Fiji, he fostered a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and the natural world. This period of service laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to helping others and protecting the environment.

In his professional life, John worked in the pharmaceutical industry in the production of sterile products at Schering-Plough in Union, NJ and Hoffman La Roche in Nutley, NJ. John subsequently worked as a Production Manager at Sultan Health Care in Englewood, NJ until he retired.

An avid outdoorsman, John's love for nature was evident in his passion for biking, hiking and volunteering for many activities with the Friends of the Great Swamp NWR where he was a former Member of the Board. He was a loyal fan to the NY Yankees and NY Giants and there are fond memories of him cheering them on.

John was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church starting in his youth in Dunellen and continuing in the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township after moving to the town in 1973. John was a former Deacon and volunteered for many programs, including SCEEP, an enrichment program for inner city children, Family Promise for homeless families and the Community Food Bank in Hillside NJ.

John's legacy of love for life is carried on by his wife of 54 years, Carole A; his son, John A.; and his daughter, Pamela Josephson, along with her husband, Markus. Together, they shared a life filled with joy, challenges, and many moments of happiness.

As we remember John Alden Wilmot, we reflect on a life well-lived, marked by service, devotion to family, and a boundless love for the natural world. His presence will be deeply missed.
