John Earl Winch, age 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and memories with his family and friends.
Born in Mankato, MN, to William and Marjorie Winch, John graduated from Wellcome Memorial High School in 1981. He went on to attend South Central Technical College (SCTC), where he graduated in 1989, earning his Class C Engineering License. John specialized in boiler operation and energy management, a career he was passionate about for many years.
A true motorcycle enthusiast, John was a life member of the Kato Cycle Club. He found joy in riding, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and a circle of lifelong friends. Whether on a road trip or just enjoying the open road, John often sought out the scenic, lesser-traveled paths to appreciate the beauty around him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Heidi McLennan-Winch; daughter, Nicole; sons, Marcus (Mikayla) and Garret; stepchildren, Heather (Justin), Stephanie (Dave), and Tracy (Alice); grandchildren, Elijah (Makayla), Camdyn, Jazzlyn, Jax, and Henry; sisters, Roxann and Wanda; and numerous other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marjorie Winch; grandparents, Raymond and Mary Osborne, and Earl Winch; along with other family members.
John’s warm heart, adventurous spirit, and commitment to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
