John Wolcott Obituary

John "Jack" Floyd Wolcott

August 18, 1950 - October 28, 2023

John "Jack" Floyd Wolcott was the first born of Gloria Pike and Floyd W. Wolcott on August 18, 1950 in Butte. He grew up in Walkerville and attended Blaine School and later Butte High School. Jack embodied the Butte spirit and enjoyed his tight knit group of childhood friends. After high school, Jack ran trains from Butte to the Smelter until he joined the Navy in 1971. He became a SeaBee and was very proud of his time in the service. While in the Navy he married Violet West and had three children; his two daughters were born while stationed in California and his son was born in Butte. After returning to Montana, he owned the Windsor Bar in Boulder for a short time and laid carpets for years. In 2000, he met the love of his life in his precious Susie. Susie put him into early retirement after all the flooring destroyed his knees. They married December 21, 2009, the longest night of the year. Jack always had a delightfully bad pun on hand to share with anyone who would listen. He was quite the dedicated conflated wordsmith and would delight in getting a groan out of you. He was always pulling little pranks on the family. With the grandkids, he would perform "magic" like placing a towel over an item and grab it when you would lift the towel and say "Tada!" as if it was the most magical thing you ever saw.

Jack passed in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his favorite uncles, Harold, Jack, and Leon.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his kids: Lori Amoroso, Tammy Wolcott, Scott Wolcott, Reece (Savannah) Gendreau, Tanna (Erik) Brown, Grandkids Cheyenne Holbrook-Wolcott, Jacqulynne Leggitt, Shalyssa (Casey) Schilling, Isaiah Wolcott, Dean Shannon, Derrick Fournier, Giselle Gendreau, Aspen Brown, and numerous great-grandkids.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fort Harrison Veterans Cemetery in Helena on Thursday at 12 noon.

A special thank you to Honeybee Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care, the doctors and staff at St. James for their quick and professional treatment, and all the friends and family that provided support through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers please make a charitable donation in his name to the charity of your choice, a veterans' organization, or an animal shelter.
