John Woolis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fohn Funeral Home - Cassville on Nov. 30, 2025.
John Richard Woolis, age 91, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on December 23, 1933, in Columbus, Kansas, the son of Richard W. Woolis and Letha (Williams) Woolis.

John grew up in Columbus, where he also received his education, graduating from Columbus High School. On November 26, 1960, John married Velma (Newport) Woolis. Together they shared a journey of love and companionship until Velma's passing on June 6, 2020.

John dedicated many years to Boeing Airplane Manufacture as a spray painter. In 1992, John and Velma embraced a new chapter of their lives, retiring to Shell Knob, Missouri. It was here they found a community of friends and a pace of life that suited them perfectly.

John had a love of working on and painting cars, a skill that he perfected over the years. His garage was often a hub of activity, filled with the sounds of tinkering and the smell of fresh paint. Before Velma's passing, they shared a love for camping and traveling, exploring the natural beauty of the country together and creating lasting memories. One of John's simplest pleasures, and perhaps one of his most endearing traits, was his love for ice cream. It was a treat that never failed to bring a smile to his face.

Preceding John in death were his parents, Richard and Letha Woolis; wife, Velma (Newport) Woolis and two daughters, Cynthia Caudell and Elizabeth "Beth" Culver.

Surviving are son-in-law, Richard Nimmo of Derby, Kansas; five grandchildren, Shawn Nimmo, Chad Nimmo, Jason Welch, Rachel Cotten, and David Cotton, as well as nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Lake Park Memorial Gardens in Shell Knob, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Joe Evans will conduct the service.
