John Francis Worland, CFSP, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away at Franciscan Health surrounded by his family on November 28th, 2021. He was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on June 28th,1952. After graduating from Shelbyville High School in 1970, he attended Indiana College of Mortuary Science, Marion College, and graduated from Indiana Christian University.
John was a devoted funeral director for 35 years, working for several firms in the greater Indianapolis area throughout his career. He was also approved by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency and lectured on continuing education for Indiana funeral directors.
He was a member of Prospect Masonic Lodge #714, The Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, The Murat Shrine, The Sahara Grotto, Prather York Rite, The Indiana Funeral Directors Association, The Academy of Professional Funeral Service, and St. Jude’s Catholic Church. He also served as vice president of the Marion County Funeral Directors Association.
John loved going to the casino, traveling, woodworking, cooking, attending the Sunday "Supper Club" at his son, Mark's house, and calling his favorite people every day.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Diane Lynn Fox Worland; sons, Matthew (Debrah) and Mark, grandsons, Elijah and Moses, sisters, AnnaMarie (Wayne) and Susan, nephews, Bob, Eric, Chad, Brad, Adam, Todd, and Ebon; nieces, Nicole and Shannon, and business partner, "the daughter he never had and never wanted," Allyse.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, David and Helene.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o Murat Shrine Temple, 510 N New Jersey St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5th, 2021 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228 with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary service at 8 p.m. At John's request there will be no ties worn the day of visitation at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46227, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Washington Park North Cemetery, with a luncheon afterwards. As John says, "Have a good time wherever you go or don't go there – And I Have!"
