John Thomas Wright, 91, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
John was born on February 3, 1934, in Knox, IN, to Isaac Earl and Irene Imodine (Cooper) Wright.
On October 9, 1971, in La Porte, IN, he married Cleo Maxine Masterson who preceded him in death on October 11, 2006. Surviving are his children, Bob (Brooksie) Wright of Columbia City, Pat (Ron) Fisher of Lake Park, GA, John (Theresa) Wright, Jr. of Tampa, FL, Trudy Makina of La Porte, David (Dawn) Makina of Mishawaka, and Mike (Cynthia) Makina of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Jody and Joe Wright, Jason (Marcie) Yeakey, Tiara (Jason) Yoder, Lasima (Matthew) Fleming, Lacie (Steve) Barger, Danielle (Josh) Evans, Angie (Julius) Ellis, David, Vondi, Levi and Logan Makina; great-grandchildren, Blake, Zach and Hailyn Yoder, Ashley Letson, Lucas and Andrew Yoder, Tyler (Chris) Morris, Layla, and Maya Fleming, Ricky and Devin Barger, Wesley Evans, Cierra and Malik, and Madison Makina; 2 great, great-grandchildren, Caleigh and Ryleigh Morris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepson, Danny (June) Makina; grandson, Luke Yeakey; and special companion, Dianna (Henning) Makina.
John graduated from Knox High School in 1952. He was a steel worker having worked at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, Modine, Indiana General, and then retired from Bethlehem Steel. John was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ricky Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
The time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 681405, Indianapolis, IN 46368.
