In this spirit, we celebrate the life of Johnetta Danielle Bennett, a beloved daughter, family member, and friend whose life touched many hearts. Johnetta was born on March 30, 1983, in
Lumberton, North Carolina to her loving parents, Geraldine Simmons Bennett and Wilbert Bennett. Her journey reflected strength, promise and a quiet light that spoke of her inner beauty and potential. As we remember Johnetta, we hold fast to the assurance that her name is precious, her life mattered, and she is forever remembered in the presence of God.
Johnetta transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on January 13, 2026 at UNC Health Southeastern in
Lumberton, NC.
At an early age she joined Providence AME Zion Church,
Rowland, North Carolina. She was a member of the usher board and chairperson of the kitchen ministry. She worked faithfully and diligently in this position.
She was educated in the public schools of Robeson County, graduating from South Robeson High School in 2000. She furthered her education at Robeson Community College, receiving an associate degree in the medical field. she worked at various group homes as a Residential Specialist.
Johnetta was a very lovable person who enjoyed life to the fullest. She was always the life of the party because she never met a stranger. But most of all, she loved God. Johnetta loved her family, and they were always her priority. She made sure everyone was okay. Some of her favorite pastimes were fishing and family gathering. Her father was the apple of her eye. To know Johnetta was to love her.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Halise (Al) Simmons; Daniel Bennett and Annie Lee (James) McCormick.
She was deeply cherished by her family, especially her devoted mother. Left to cherish her memories are her immediate family: her mother Geraldine Simmons Bennett, of
Rowland, North Carolina, father Wilbert Bennett of
Rowland, NC, her daughter Justice Miles; her brothers, Wilbert Jerard (Denise) Bennett of White Oak, North Carolina and Adrian Torrance (Felicia) Bennett of
Rowland, North Carolina.
Extended family members who will hold Johnetta's memories dear include her great aunt Lula Bell and her aunts Gezel Simmons, Nellie (Eddie) Odom, Joanne (John) Murphy and Emma (Sam) Sampson. Her uncles, John (May) Simmons, Elvis Simmons, Rev. Johnnie Bennett, and James W. Bennett, along with a special network of first and second cousins.. Special friends who were like family, including her Godmother, Dessa McNair of New York and Barbara McRae of Red Springs, North Carolina will also remember her fondly. Johnetta also leaves a host of other relatives and friends who's lives she touched.
