Johnie Leroy Brashear, lovingly known as Papa John, passed from this world to his eternal home with the Lord July 20, 2025. Johnie Brashear was born November 26, 1928, to Darb and Alma Brashear in Ochelata, Ok. where he lived most of his life. He attended school through the 9th grade in Ochelata. At the age of 20 he joined the United States Army stationed at Camp Carson in Colorado. He served from 1950 to 1951 doing KP duty, working with the engineers and big guns. This is where he learned to peel potatoes and help build bridges. When Johnie returned home from the Army, he met Lois Sisco in 1952 during a night out at the dance hall. Johnie and Lois married a short time later May 30, 1953, making their home in Ochelata, OK raising two sons, JB and Jimbo Brashear, and celebrating 72 years of marriage together. Johnie was a hard worker and made his career of 38 years at Reda Pump in Bartlesville, OK. While working there he was part of the Assembly 2 Water Well group and later finished his career in the maintenance department. When Johnie wasn't working, he was busy enjoying life. If you knew Johnie you knew his love of horses, whether it was training one, breeding one, working cattle on one, or just riding for pleasure with friends on the trails in the mountains, being on horseback was his joy. He always had an eye for picking the best horse in a pen; it had to have a pretty head, big hip and good hind leg. In his later years he enjoyed going to roping's with his grandson Travis and he could be found in the return lane keeping the cattle loaded. He also became known for teaching one to stretch out so that he was still able to get on and ride. When he wasn't riding, he enjoyed taking trips with friends, spending time with his family, especially the grandkids and great grandkids, playing music with the Calico Cowboys, and his meals at RibCrib with Lois. If you ask anyone who knew him, they will tell you he is a great man and there will never be another like him. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all. Johnie is survived by his loving wife Lois Brashear, one son JB Brashear, one sister Bonnie Toalson, four grandchildren Travis (Danielle) Brashear, Joel (Kasi) Brashear, Jordan (Christian) Brashear, and James Brashear, and six great grandchildren Madisyn Brown, Amelia Brashear, John Brashear, Jonah Brashear, Judson Brashear, and Charlotte Brashear along with many more family and friends. Johnie is preceded in death by his parents Darb and Alma Brashear, one sister Virginia Grundy, three Brothers Jay Brashear, George Brashear, and Joe Brashear, one son Jimbo Brashear, and great granddaughter Ava Brashear. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in memory of Johnie to the Ochelata Baptist church.
