Johnnie Myrel Brockington was born October 17, 1947, to Eddie and Alice Maxine Edwards in Taylor, Texas.
During the early 1950's, her family relocated to the Heights Community in Houston, Texas. Johnnie Myrel attended Phillis Wheatly High School and was a proud majorette in the marching band. Later continued her education at The University of Houston.
Johnnie Myrel accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Samuel J. Gilbert, Sr. She later joined Bethel Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Melrose A. Nimmo where she became a member of the Gatekeepers.
Johnnie Myrel worked for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for 32 years in the Division of Nursing as a Patient Service Coordinator before retiring in 2006.
She was a loving devoted Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed watching TV shows, movies and shopping.
Johnnie Myrel departed this life on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Alice Edwards.
Johnnie leaves to honor her life and cherish her memories, four children: Derrick Marshall of Houston, TX; Vicki Sam (Joseph Sr.) of Houston, TX; Lachel Edison of San Antonio, TX; Rodney Palmer (Delon) of Fresno, TX; grandchildren: Derron Edison, Darrion Edison, Dominique Babineaux, Joseph Sam Jr., Kingsley Sam, Evan Palmer, Dillon Palmer, and Malik Marshall; great grandchildren: Zaria Oliver, Lariya Sam, and Bryson Oliver; closest friends JoAnn Tolbert, Bobbie Calhoun, Janice Miller, and a host of cousins, friends and special love ones that will miss her loving spirit.
