Johnnie Laverne Lantrip, age 90, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Funeral services for Johnnie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Johnnie was born on January 4, 1935 to the late Woodrow Young and Ollie Galloway Honnel in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. She was a devoted homemaker, dedicating her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. Her nurturing spirit and dedication were evident in all that she did.
A beloved grandmother, Johnnie's grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She often affectionately referred to herself as their “Grand-maw,” a title that encapsulated the love and affection she poured into her relationship with them. They meant the world to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
In her leisure time, Johnnie found joy in watching Westerns and her favorite television series, Walker Texas Ranger. These simple pleasures brought comfort and happiness to her daily life.
The family Johnnie leaves behind includes her three children, Brenda Smith (Earl) of Batesville, MS, Sally Loggains (the late Rick) of Walls, MS, and Jerry Lantrip, Sr. of Charleston, MS; her four sisters, Sheryl Hood of Amory, MS, Betty Jean Braddock of Bruce, MS, Louise Price of Columbus, MS, and Camille Lummis of Murfreesboro, TN; five brothers, Jimmy Roberts of Benton Harbor, MI, Frankie Roberts of Benton Harbor, MI, Luther Roberts of Benton Harbor, MI, Larry Roberts of Tupelo, MS, and Dennis Morphis of Katy, TX; eleven grandchildren, Christy Roden, Misty Nall, Tiffany Wilson, Jamie Loggains, Jerry Lantrip, Jr., John Cory Lantrip, Jason Lantrip, Jerrod Lantrip, Jon Lantrip, Keith Lantrip, and Paul Wells; forty two great grandchildren, and thirty four great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Edward Lantrip; one son, Willie Wayne Lantrip; one grandson, Chris Loggains; one great grandson, Damien Chastain; and five siblings, Elenora Wages, Johnnie Roberts, Roy Henry, Thad Roberts and Lester Roberts.
