Johnny Durda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory on Feb. 18, 2026.
Johnny Steve Durda, Sr., 68, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Erie VA Medical Center.

He was born on April 23, 1957 in Englewood, CA, the son of John and Elizabeth Jane (Callahan) Durda. He grew up in Niles, OH.

Johnny honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1977, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and quiet pride that never left him. Service was not just a chapter in his life, it was part of who he was.

A true jack-of-all-trades, Johnny was always the first to step forward when something needed to be done. Whether volunteering at community events, lending a hand at the VA to support fellow veterans, or simply showing up when someone needed help, he gave generously of his time and heart. He had a servant's spirit and a steady presence that others could always count on.

Johnny also found joy in the simple blessings of life, especially camping and spending time outdoors. He valued fellowship and community, remaining a longtime and proud member of American Legion Post 226, the VFW, the Sons of Italy, and the Eagles Club. Through these organizations, he built lasting friendships.

Johnny is survived by his children, Mary (Jacob) Hostetler, Deborah (John) Fuge, and Johnny Durda, Jr.; his loving spouse, Sandy Strack; step daughter, Tiffany (Brady) Strack-Wiant; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Durda-Roach, and numerous close friends.

In following Johnny's wishes, he will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A gathering for friends and family will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local Veterans Administration in his name.

Funeral arrangements were trusted to Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave. Ashtabula, OH 44004. Online obituary and condolences can be made at www.ducro.com.
