Johnny H Garrison Sr.

Johnny H. Garrison, Sr., age 98, passed away at Hospice of West Alabama on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. A graveside funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by his minister, Kerry Richardson of Northport Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Garrison; his parents and his brothers; Jake, Donald, Teamus and Clayton. He is survived by his children; Joan Garrison, Linda Garrison Brown, Jackie Garrison Simmons, Tommy Garrison, Jerry Garrison and Johnny Garrison, Jr.; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was born on November 18, 1925, in Fayette County, Alabama to Jim and Susie Garrison. Johnny was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1944, age 18. He rose from Basic Infantry to Squad Leader, Staff Sergeant. He served 9 months overseas with the 255th Regiment of the 63rd Division in the European Theater of Operations and was injured in the Rhineland Offensive in Germany, March 1945. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. After the war, he became a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker.
Pallbearers will be the Regulators MC, West Alabama Chapter. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
