JOHNNY HOGAN Obituary
Mr. Johnny Devoe Hogan, 71, passed away February 18, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana after a brief illness. He was the oldest of nine children born into the family of the late Mr. James H. and Mrs. Mary G. Watson Hogan. Johnny was preceded in death by his brothers Marshall, Michael, James and Cary Hogan as well as his nephew, Marshall (Buddy) Londell Hogan and niece, Ebonie Ann Hogan.
As a child, Johnny gave his life to Christ and attended Sunny Mount Baptist Church under the leadership of his uncle, Rev. Otis Gibson. He attended Elementary School 41 and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, in 1972. He participated in ROTC and was part of the track team competing in hurdles, which he loved. He was also passionate about drawing and karate.
Johnny enjoyed a career as a sprinkler fitter responsible for the installation, testing, inspection, maintenance and repair of Automated Fire Protection systems. He was employed by and a member of Local Union Number 669 for over 50 years.
In the fall of 1982, Johnny met the love of his life, Korene Elaine Grubbs at Zion Hope Baptist Church. They fell in love and were married on September 22, 1984. Johnny and Elaine, as he affectionately called her, enjoyed attending church together, traveling (when she could get him out of the house), and spending time with family. One of his favorite past-times was washing and waxing his vehicles. He also loved cooking and grilling, grooming the yard and watching sports. While Elaine was at work, he enjoyed his private devotion time, which consisted of praying, studying the Bible and singing songs of praise. He loved sharing the word with others and was a faithful member of Faith Bible Church.
Johnny is survived by his beautiful wife of 40 years, Korene E. Hogan; siblings; Angela Hogan, Melva Bland (Nathan), Kathy Hogan, and Nash Hogan; aunts; Marvis Bennett, Marian Neal (Lawrence), and Marsha Wilburn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Service for Johnny will be at 11:00 am Monday, March 3, 2025, with viewing at 10:00 am at Stuart Mortuary, 2201 N. Illinois Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Johnny will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.
