Johnny Mack McBee

Johnny Mack McBee, 83, passed in tranquility at his home in Corryton on Friday, September 20, 2024. Preceded in death by his wife of nearly 62 years, Sandra McBee, and his beloved daughter, Deana McBee, he is survived by his dear sister Phyllis Browning of Knoxville and his son Russell McBee of Corryton, as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
After a three-year tour of duty in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Johnny, Sandy, and their newborn son returned to Corryton, where Johnny lived the rest of his life. He worked as a welder and pipefitter for Rohm & Haas in Knoxville for 37 years. He enjoyed travel, reading, music (especially blues), and tinkering in his garage. Johnny and Sandy, along with their friends, the Corryton Cruisers, went on many Caribbean adventures together, which they heartily enjoyed. Johnny and Russ went on several trips to Europe together, with just the two of them exploring the back roads of the continent in a rental car and usually no itinerary. Father and son landed in many hilarious predicaments this way, but the adventure was always worth retelling later.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Covenant Hospice, who provided exceptional care for Johnny during his final days at home. The family will receive friends at Stevens Mortuary on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 4-6 PM. A graveside funeral service will be held at Clapps Chapel cemetery at noon on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
