Johnny Powell

Johnny Powell, age 89, departed this Earthly life on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born to Johnny Holmes and Rachel Hunter in Baker, Louisiana. Johnny was baptized at an early age. As an adult, he joined New Zion Baptist Church where his wife worshiped. He would accompany his wife to church and Sunday School. He also joined her at Wednesday night Bible study pre-Covid. His love of boxing was what he enjoyed, having been a professional boxer in his early life. He trained professional, boxers, and amateur boxers. He enjoyed meeting people and sharing his boxing stories. Johnny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family dearly.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Funeral Service at New Zion Baptist Church, 2319 Third Street on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.
