Johnny Francis White Jr., age 92, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, went to his eternal rest on August 21, 2025, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was born on June 9, 1933, in the farming community of Bickley, Georgia, to John Francis White Sr. and Era Douglas White as the fifth of seven children.
In August of 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Lucille Taylor. Over the next few years, they had three children, Evelyn, Danny, and Donny.
In late 1954, Johnny was called to serve his country in the US Army. As part of a communications unit, he was stationed in France for several months during the later stages of the Korean War. For his service, Johnny was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as receiving the Good Conduct Medal. After his military service, he returned home to Georgia, settling his family in Alma where he worked as a lineman for the rural electric association.
In late 1964, a job opening at Container Corporation brought the family to their favorite vacation spot of Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was hired into the box plant, later becoming a technician in the quality assurance lab in the mill. He retired from the mill after 30 years in 1995.
In his free time, he loved to "wet a hook" (fish) at the beach, on the jetties, on the pier, or behind Fort Clinch. He had a passion for music, especially hymns, Southern gospel quartet music, and country music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and loved to sing along. A cherished memory for his family was his "secret" enjoyment of the old Looney Tunes cartoons, a pastime he began with his children when they were young. His favorite character was the Roadrunner.
Johnny was a gentle man who loved to joke and kid with those he was fond of. He was a devoted family man whose primary goal in life was to provide the best he could be for his loved ones. By his example, he taught his children the value of love, responsibility, hard work, and a good reputation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Era, his brothers, DC, Odus, and Freddie, his sisters, Evelyn and Anita, and the love of his life, Lucille.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Thornhill, sister-in-law, Sallie White, his daughter, Evelyn (John) Johnson, his son, Danny (Nancy) White, and his son, Donny (Agnes Johnnetta) White. He is also survived by his grandson, Nathan White, granddaughter, Amanda (Jeff) Stanbarger, and great-grandchildren, Maricia, Ashleigh, Zachary, and Jeffrey Stanbarger Jr., as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach, Florida. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Oxley-Heard at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2025. He will be interred beside his wife, Lucille, in Bosque-Bello Cemetery.
