Joleen McCahen Schaefer, age 52, passed away on February 2nd, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

Joleen was born on January 8, 1974, in Springfield, Missouri, to Linda and James McCahen. The youngest of three children, she was raised in Colstrip, Montana, where she graduated from Colstrip High School in 1992.

In 1991, Joleen married Ed LaDuke, and together they welcomed two daughters, Haileigh in 1994 and Kiah in 1999. Being a mother was Joleen's greatest joy, and she devoted herself fully to her girls-never missing a practice, making sure school projects were completed, and always putting their needs first.

In 2003, Joleen remarried the love of her life, Prescott Schaefer, after reconnecting with him years later. Joleen and Prescott first became friends in second grade and remained close throughout their school years. Their bond endured time and distance, and when they found their way back to one another, it was forever. Joleen faithfully followed Prescott through his enlistment in the United States Navy, living in multiple places while being a devoted wife and mother.

In 2009, Joleen and her family settled in Philadelphia, which she quickly made home. She became an active part of the community and was known for her willingness to help anyone in any way she could. In her quieter moments, she found joy in crocheting and running Facebook groups for the crochet community, where she built lifelong friendships. She also shared a love of motorcycle riding with Prescott, enjoying day trips filled with exploration, good food, and new experiences.

In 2020, Joleen moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where she made her final home. There, she cherished every possible moment with her grandchildren, teaching them valuable life skills like cooking, cleaning, and crocheting. Her grandchildren, children, and husband were her entire world. Whether in person or over FaceTime, she delighted in watching the grandkids show off their newest treasures and dance moves.

Joleen is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Prescott Schaefer; her daughters, Haileigh (Jimmy) and Kiah (Blake); her grandchildren, Kyleigh, Maverick, and Wesley; her sister, Patti; her brother, Jay; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Joleen's beautiful life on Thursday, February 26th at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast with a visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Following the service, Joleen will be laid to rest in Greenville Memorial Gardens, within 1 mile of her family home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joleen's honor to your local animal shelter and / or food bank.
