Jolene is survived by her loving children, Randy Buchanan (Tera) of Arden, NC, and John Buchanan (Brenda) of Crawfordville, FL. She also leaves behind several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who filled her life with joy. Preceding her in death were her devoted parents John and Lucy Greene as well as her beloved spouse, Olin Buchanan, whom she is now reunited with in eternal peace.
Jolene had a diverse and fulfilling career. She began her working life for Jackson County Public Schools as a dedicated bus driver then went to work at Scotty’s Discount on Main Street in Sylva. However, it was her over 30-year tenure at Harold’s Supermarket that truly defined her professional life. There, Jolene became a pillar of the community, known for her warmth, kindness, and welcoming smile while known affectionately to the teenagers who worked there over the years as "Mama Jo". The friendships and relationships she built during her time at Harold's were a testament to her caring nature and love for people.
Jolene deeply cherished her family and took immense joy in the many interactions. Her community spirit and dedication to her family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Arrangements for Jolene Buchanan have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services, who are honored to assist the family during this difficult time. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Services on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10am with a funeral service to follow at 11am. Interment will be beside her beloved Olin at Fairview Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.
Jolene will be dearly missed, but her legacy of kindness and love will continue on in the hearts of all those she touched. Her family invites those who knew and loved her to gather and celebrate her life, honoring the beautiful impact she made during her 84 wonderful years.
