Jon Bell Obituary

Jon Peter Bell

Jon Peter Bell, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife and family. His life was filled with kindness, love, service, and humor. He was known for his ever-present smile and lived by his motto: "I'll do it because I said I would."

Jon was born on April 19, 1938, in Alameda, California, to Helen Lenore Johnson and Harold Cyril Bell. He was the youngest of six children-Pat, Janice, Joyce, Jay, and Jimmie. His mother passed away when he was just five years old, and at age nine his father remarried, blessing him with two additional siblings, Nina and Martin.

Jon attended American Fork High School, where he excelled in athletics and set a new school record in the javelin his senior year. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving four years operating and maintaining ship engines on the U.S.S Chara. His service allowed him to travel abroad to Hawaii, Japan, China, and the Philippines. Later, he earned a degree in Drafting and Design Technology from Salt Lake Community College in 1970. Gifted with artistic talent, Jon often sketched cartoon characters on family birthday cards. Jon loved his time volunteering at Alta View Hospital for five years. He enjoyed a long and successful career in medical sales spanning 41 years.

At age 21, Jon was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he served faithfully in many leadership callings, including as Bishop-a role he cherished deeply. His devotion to the Lord was evident in all he did. Later, he and his wife served a two-year service mission, teaching English in a Spanish-speaking ward.

Jon loved the outdoors from an early age, fishing with his father and later taking up golf, boating, waterskiing, running. He and his wife, Jeanene, loved traveling and running races with their close group of friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Harold; his siblings Pat, Janice, Joyce, Jay, and Jimmie; and his son, Jon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanene H. Bell. They combined a loving family of six children: Randy, Jeff (Michelle), Mike (Petra), Belinda (Ralph), and Tracey (Oscar). He also leaves behind 20 cherished grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jon's faith was steadfast. He often bore testimony that "God hears and answers our prayers. Jesus is the Christ, our Elder Brother. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and was the instrument through which the Lord restored the gospel." His actions reflected his love for the Savior and his deep devotion to his family-especially his dear wife, with whom he shared 60 beautiful years side by side.

A visitation will be held, Friday, November 14, 2025, at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services, Saturday, November 15, 2025, 11:00 at Mountain View Memorial Estates.

Earlier today

I am sorry to hear that Bishop Bell has passed away. He was the Bishop when I joined the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was such a kind man. He would take time to answer my questions when I had them. He would take me in his office so he could hear me. Thank you Bishop Bell for a kind and loving entrance into the gospel. May God bless you family at this time.
