Jon Mauss Obituary

Jon Mauss

2025

Layton, UT-It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jon Michael Mauss on January 8, 2025, in Layton, Utah.

Jon pursued his dream career as a PGA golf professional and achieved remarkable success. He was among the top golfers in Utah, earning numerous tournament victories, including the prestigious Utah State Amateur. A dedicated member of both the UGA and PGA for over 50 years, Jon was instrumental in promoting the game of golf in Utah. He generously contributed his time to organizations such as the UGA and the First Tee program, leaving a lasting impact on the golfing community. When asked how he was able to win as many events as he did, Jon would jokingly attribute his success to being "an athlete." His passion for the game will be deeply missed, and if there is a course in the afterlife, one can imagine Jon will be the first one out.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; his son Brad (Carma); daughter Mauri; stepson Jason (Brittani); stepdaughters Jenny and Emilie (Dennis); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Sheila and Debbie (Leon), mother-in-law Beverly, and brother-in-law Dan (Kelly). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Emma Mauss; his daughter Leslie; grandson Brayden Michael and granddaughter Amber.

"My darling Jon, please know I miss you terribly and love you with all my heart now and forever. Cheers, honey."

Jon will forever be a legend in my mind!! Oh the headaches we must have given him. He was such a good man with the best sense of humor! I´ll never forget all the times he would call from the golf course and say, "I bet you could use a break. Send the boys over." So they would strap their golf bags on their backs and ride their bikes over to the 3 par. They´d play with their Papa for hours!! Or the time in Saratoga when he called me to tell me he was excited to know someone famous, and that I should come over to the pro shop, only to point out that the town listed every person who got a speeding ticket in their newspaper! He said, " Look... it´s you!" Haha! I have a million stories that I will treasure forever! I hope he finds me on the golf course and gives me some much needs golf help!

Jon was a kind and generous guy and a gifted golfer. I was fortunate to have had a few rounds with him on the golf course and a few off the golf course. His smile and sense of humor made him a joy to be around. He will be missed.

I was Jon´s caddie when he won the state am and the city parks.
I met him at Nibley Park where we both worked
He was kind to me, a younger golfer and golf nut
I was honored to caddie for such a gifted player,

I´ve never had a better golf teacher, grandpa or supporter. I´ll always remember riding around in golf carts as a kid on the course. A true professional

Jon was the best friend a person could ever ask for. Either playing golf together or partying or traveling to out of the state tournaments he was always fun to be with. He was a great golfer and credit to his profession.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Tom Srensen.

Haha he came over to yell at my husband because our shrubs were blocking his sprinkler. Damon was scared thinking he was really mad, but then Jon beamed and told him welcome to the neighborhood, and to make sure he keeps his yard looking nice. I remember once I went out early in the morning to feed my stupid dogs and they jumped all over me and I twisted and danced around the yard trying to avoid them, all while I was in my undies, and I looked up and made eye contact with Jon while he smiled and sipped his coffee from his balcony. What a spectacle, I'm sure. We loved being his neighbor. We loved seeing him in his red Utes sweatshirt, and giving him treats. And my poor husband never could even compare with our beautiful he kept his yard. God rest Jon, we'll play a round for you soon Love, The Corgiat family
