Jon Dorine McDougal of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on June 24, 2023, at the age of 52.
Jon was born in Virginia and raised in Long Beach, Mississippi. After graduating from Coast
Episcopal School, he attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of South Alabama, earning a degree in English Literature.
He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and worked in the technology industry. In August of 2005, he returned to the Gulf Coast and worked as a Systems
Engineer for the Beau Rivage and Premier One.
Jon lived the life of a true Renaissance Man, holding interest and expertise in literature, music, philosophy, science, and technology. He was a writer, an engineer, and an athlete. He lived by stoic ideologies and his favorite mantra of the Star Wars character Yoda, “Do or do not. There is no try.” Jon was passionate and disciplined. He read widely, journaled daily, and wrote poetry. Concerned with the impacts of his carbon footprint, he built an electric car. Motivated to improve his health, he went from running 5k marathons to participating in ultra-triathlons and Spartan races across the country. Jon mentored many as a coach at Post-Normal Systems and USA Triathlon, and he found joy in helping and motivating others.
Above all, Jon loved and adored his family, his Bride, his Kidd Maestro, and his Baby Bear. He held the distinction of Most Favorite Person to Molly, the family dog he missed so much.
As well as being an outstanding father and husband, Jon was a dearly beloved son and brother. He had a lifelong love for his mother, father, brother, and grandparents and was consistently motivated by them all.
Jon is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Raybourn McDougal, his son Liam
Connor McDougal and daughter Meg Delaney McDougal, all of Gulfport, MS, his parents, Jon
and Catherine McDougal of Long Beach, MS, and his brother Jason McDougal and wife Sara
McDougal of Gulfport, and several beloved nieces and a nephew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m. at Reimann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Mississippi Public Broadcasting or National
