Jon Michael Puerta

Jon Michael Puerta, age 43, of Bowersville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2022. The family is both devastated and shocked by his death.
Jon was born on January 14, 1979 to Lorraine Brown Puerta and the late Michael O. Puerta in Decatur, Georgia. After graduating from Collins Hill High School in 1997, he went on to study college at Georgia Perimeter College and graduated, and the University of Georgia, where he studied psychology. He was employed as a remote transcriber with Clark Psychological Services and other agencies.
Jon was a Christian and remained passionate about the Lord and his beliefs.
His love of animals was enormous, and he provided rescue to many dogs and cats. He was an avid historian, and a World War II history buff, in appreciation and love for his grandfather. He also loved movies, music, books, critiquing each one, and intelligent conversation. He greatly enjoyed living on the Brown farm, cherishing the land and his many walks. Anyone who knew Jon, knew that he was the most loving son, sibling, brother-in-law, grandson, uncle, and nephew, a family could ask for. He shared this same love with his community of friends, and acquaintances spanning across his life. He was a humble and compassionate young man, and often wise beyond his years.
He is survived by his loving mother; sister Anna Puerta Cobb and brother-in-law Mark Cobb; niece Lauren Marie Cobb; nephews Dylan and Jake Cobb; one aunt, Sonnia Aleman; many cousins and friends; best friend Jarrett Vire; his beloved German Shepherd, Rommel, and four other dogs.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents Edna Bartlett Brown and Quenten Brown and Michael and Dulce Puerta, many relatives and friends, and Patton, Benson, and Max.
A memorial service is being held for Jon on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Strickland Funeral Home chapel in Hartwell, Georgia. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to Hart County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1062, Hartwell, GA 30643.
