Jon Ries Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hayward Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
Jon Darrell Ries of Hayward, Wisconsin, passed away on February 13, 2026. He was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, and remained deeply connected to the people and spirit of northern Wisconsin throughout his life.
Jon was genuinely one of the most caring people many of us have ever known. He had a true heart of gold and would have done anything for anyone without hesitation. If someone needed help or encouragement Jon was there. His kindness was natural and sincere. It was simply who he was. He had an unforgettable sense of humor. His wit was effortless and magnetic, and he had a way of leaving every conversation with someone smiling or laughing. Whether he was talking with an Uber driver, a server at a restaurant, or a clerk at a local store, Jon connected with people easily. He had a gift for conversation.
Jon loved adventure and especially enjoyed riding his ATV, embracing the freedom of the outdoors. There was a restless, spirited part of him that was always chasing happiness - always searching for moments of joy, connection, and laughter. That pursuit shaped much of who he was and how he moved through the world.
More than anything, Jon will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the warmth he brought into the lives of others. He leaves behind memories filled with laughter and a reminder to seek joy wherever we can find it.
He will truly be missed by many.
