Jon L. Sandness, age 79 of Perham, MN died Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Perham Living.

Jon was born on May 22, 1945 in Valley City, ND to Clarence and Evelyn (Lere) Sandness.

He enlisted into the US Navy in January of 1966, and served until October of 1969. Jon was a proud US Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Enterprise (CAVN-65), which was the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. He was thankful to have in recent years participated in the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

On October 4, 1980, Jon was united in marriage to Annette at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham. Together the couple made new roots in Mapleton, ND from 1980-1985, where Jon worked at Fargo Tank. He and Annette then moved to Temple, TX living there from 1985 to 1998. During that time, Jon worked in research and development building office and school furniture. In 1998, Jon and Annette returned to Minnesota, spending the next 15 years in Otsego, where Jon was employed at Hoffman Manufacturing, where he worked on housing units for refrigeration and air conditioner systems. When Jon retired, they moved to their current home in Perham.

Jon will be remembered for his sense of humor, perfectionism, and readiness to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed time outdoors in his yard, meticulously making sure the grass was evenly cut. He also liked playing cribbage and dominoes with Annette, and putting together puzzles.

Surviving Jon are his wife of 45 years, Annette Sandness; stepchildren, Susan Heidorn (Fredrick Anderson) and Greg (Diane) Heidorn; grandson, Dorian Sandness; three step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; brothers, Neil (Kathy) Sandness and Brian (Pat) Sandness; and sister, Penny (Paul) Sandbek.
