Jon Tyler Travis, 67, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Centra Specialty Hospital.

He was born August 22, 1958, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Charles "Charlie" C. Travis, Jr. and Mildred "Millie" Lindsay Travis. Jon was a graduate of Brookville High School, Class of 1976, where he was a state champion wrestler and standout running back. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from James Madison University with a degree in Business Marketing and Management.

Jon was a retired financial advisor and investment broker with Equitable Financial Company. He was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club, reflecting his dedication to service and community involvement. Those who knew Jon, whether personally or professionally, knew him for his quick wit, frequent jokes, his infamous coin tricks, and his remarkable ability to make others laugh. He had a deep love for animals and treasured spending summers at the beach with his family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

He is survived by two sons, Tyler Travis and his wife, Heather, of Lynchburg, and Trae Travis and his wife, Jennifer, of Forest; one sister, Dr. Tracy Travis and her husband, David Stevens, of Oakton, VA; two grandchildren, Kennedy Travis and Kasen Travis; five step-grandchildren, Ella, Gavin, Langston, Dax, and Rhett Shinkle; and by the mother of his children, Dianne Cothran Travis (Randy).

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista, by the Rev. Josh Dalton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

I'm so sorry to hear of Jon's passing. We had several classes together in high school and I always enjoyed being a classmate of his. He made me laugh and made the 55 minute periods go by much faster. He will be missed. Prayers for the family.
