Jon Eric Hansen Wik, 63, passed away at his home in Woodland Park, Colorado on Sunday Jan. 12th, 2025. He was born October 23rd, 1961 in Peoria Illinois to Anna (Scheffel) and Johan Wik.
Jon spent 12 years in law enforcement throughout the '80's in the Houston TX area and surrounding counties. He raised his family in Martin S. Dakota where he ranched and operated a hunting guide service. He worked in the construction trade for many years and was also a heavy equipment operator in the coal mining industry throughout eastern Wyoming. Jon was a member of fire and rescue team and earned his paramedic credentials in 2015, serving as first responder in Montana, Wyoming and S. Dakota. In addition to serving as paramedic, he conducted training courses for first responders and also taught safety courses for motorcyclists. Over the years Jon celebrated many awards for safety and professionalism in both his medical and mining careers.
Jon was a gifted talent in a variety of fields including carpentry, woodworking, construction, electrician, plumbing and mechanic. He had a flair for the unconventional and was a free spirit who loved motorcycles and enjoyed being 'in the wind'. Jon was well known for his excellent cooking skills and operated a BBQ business delivering blue-ribbon foods and sauces catering many local events over the years. His wonderful sense of humor and outgoing personality never let him meet a stranger and made him truly unforgettable.
Jon is survived by his wife Joyce of Woodland Park, son Johan (Brandy) of MN, Julianna of Emeryville CA, Regina of Houston TX, step-son Raymond (Jenny) Ferris of Longview TX, grandson Ryker Wik of S. Dakota and step grandson Ethan Ferris of Longview TX, brothers Rick (Dawn) Sheffel of Florissant CO, Tom Wik of Omaha, NE, sisters Anne (Jim) Ulrich of Peoria, IL, Christine (Jim) of Lake Jackson, TX, Petra Schook of Sumter S.Carolina, Lenda Marshall of Canton IL, Jan (Doug) Myers of Bremerton WA, Bonnie (Ron) Guthrie of Peoria IL and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Regina Sue Nelson in 2011 and brother-in-law Gilbert Marshall in 2019.
A Celebration of Life is planned for spring 2025 at the Strickland's home in Lake Jackson TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jon's honor may be made to his preferred organizations, the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (www.NFRSA.com) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org)
