Verne Olaf Wik, 91, was born on February 2, 1933, to Olaf and Karine (Klokseth) Wik in Fargo, ND. He grew up in rural Glyndon, MN. He graduated from Moorhead High School, Concordia College, and earned his Masters degree from Bemidji State University. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War from 1953-1955 stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and was part of a Veteran Honor Flight from Fargo, ND in 2018.
On September 2, 1956, Verne married Carol Iverson in Fargo, ND. They had two children, Daniel and Gail. Verne was a high school educator and guidance counselor in Bagley, MN and then moved to Mahnomen, MN. After he retired, Verne and Carol moved to Moorhead, MN, and enjoyed their winter home in Mesa, AZ as well as traveling together.
Verne is survived by his wife, Carol, his sister Valborg, his sister-in-law, Avis Iverson and family, his brother-in-law, Roger Iverson and family, along with many nieces and nephews; his children Daniel (Katie) Wik and Gail (Daniel) Illg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Philip (Deniz) Wik, Ellen (Daniel) Steffensmeier, Karen (Zachary) Meyer and Andrew Wik (Nikki Campagnola); great-grandchildren Ava Wik, Sophia Wik, Maya Wik, Julia Steffensmeier, Grace Steffensmeier, Hannah Steffensmeier, Nora Meyer and Eli Meyer.
Funeral service, burial and lunch will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Concordia Lutheran Church 6637 80th Ave. N., Glyndon, MN (rural Glyndon) at 10:30 A.M. Visitation from 9:30-10:30 before the funeral service at the church.
Any memorials can be sent to Concordia Lutheran Church-cemetery fund.
