Martha Edith Glover passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 75 years old. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Wayne Glover, her 2 children Sara (Aaron) Lytle, Houston, Texas and Timothy (Jennifer) Glover, Hudson, Ohio, as well as her 6 grandchildren: Abrianna Lytle, Zachariah Lytle, Charlotte Glover, Edith Glover, Aaliyah Lytle, and Amariah Lytle.

Martha was born on May 19, 1950, in Fargo, North Dakota, to the late Rev. John and Helen (Lueders) Lutz. In 1956, the Lutz family moved to Chicago, Illinois, when her father accepted a call to St. John’s Mayfair Lutheran Church. Martha was the middle of five children. She is survived by her siblings: Michael (Liz) Lutz, Dorcas Kautz, Mary (Jim) Beyer, and Lois Lutz. She was baptized by her father on May 28, 1950 and confirmed on March 22, 1964.

Martha attended St. John Mayfair Lutheran grade school and graduated from Lutheran High North in 1968. She loved being a cheerleader and was high school sweethearts with Wayne. Martha matriculated to Concordia College in Ann Arbor, MI where she earned an Associate Degree of Arts and then went on to Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Martha then earned her Master of Education degree from National Louis University.

As early as fourth grade, Martha dreamed of becoming a parochial school teacher. Martha served 3 congregations: Immanuel Lutheran in Des Plaines, IL, St. Peter Lutheran in Arlington Heights, IL, and Zion Lutheran in St. Charles, MO. She taught fourth grade, led outdoor education at Camp Wartburg, coached volleyball and track, and shared the love of Jesus with everyone she met. She retired in May 2012 after decades of faithful service. Martha served on mission trips to Guatemala, Nicaragua, New Orleans, an Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and weekly for the Bethlehem Mission in St. Louis.

A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, she got to witness a World Series victory. Martha loved traveling with Wayne; highlights included the annual Lutz family trip to Eden Camp, hiking in National Parks, and visiting the Holy Land. She especially cherished visiting their children and grandchildren. Martha rarely missed a grandchild’s sporting event, dance recital, skating performance, or special milestone. Whether cheering from the sidelines or applauding from the front row, she delighted in every moment of their lives.

Martha loved the outdoors—gardening, hiking, backpacking, biking, sledding, and racing down water slides with her grandchildren. She was an avid baker, especially known for her pies and her famous puff rice birthday cakes, a tradition she lovingly passed down to her grandchildren. Her hobbies included spending time with friends, sewing, working out, reading, doing Bible studies, playing cards (especially pinochle), and making photo books and cards. She was adventurous, joyful, full of laughter, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Martha’s life was deeply rooted in her trust in God. Scripture was not just something she read—it was something she lived. When fear or uncertainty arose, she held fast to the promise, “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). This verse was written in her hospital room during her final weeks—a quiet testimony to the peace and confidence she carried even at the end. It shaped the way she faced challenges, served others, and encouraged everyone around her.

Martha believed wholeheartedly that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Her hope was never anchored in this world alone, but in the promise of life with her Savior. Because of that hope, she lived with courage, knowing that one day she would be at home with the Lord, “for we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7–8). Martha’s life was a testimony of lived faith, joyful service, and unwavering hope in Christ.
