Jonathan Kevin Adkins
1968-2025
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends,"
John 15:13
Jonathan Kevin Adkins, age 56, of Catlettsburg, KY, passed gently away surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2025.
Kevin was born on a warm summer's day on August 1st in 1968. He was the blessing of the Late Lat Gerald and Loretta Carol Bryant Adkins. Kevin was a 1986 graduate of Boyd County High School. Kevin was a Black Hawk Crew Chief and Army Ranger who served his country proudly during the Gulf War. Kevin met the love of his life at the age of 36 and was completely smitten by her. Just in time for Valentines Day a February love blossomed, and Dovetta was everything he wanted, and he knew it quickly. They were wed in December of that same year and together they had two precious children. Kevin supported his family by being a dedicated dispatcher of the Boyd County 911. He was proud of his work and knew what he was doing was making a difference. He had a very rewarding 20 years of service for the county. Kevin was a "Mans Man" who loved smoking meat and shooting guns. He was a gun enthusiast who loved collecting. He was even a National Rifle Association Instructor. Kevin had a good heart and big personality. He was funny and loving. Kevin adored his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with not only his children but also his nieces and nephews. Kevin was a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was loved by so many and in his passing, he leaves a void that may only be filled by the love and memories he left behind.
Kevin is survived by his devoted wife Dovetta Thompson Adkins, his two precious children Jonathan Kevin Adkins Jr, and Kimber Leigh Adkins, all of Catlettsburg, KY, two brothers Lat Gerald Adkins, Jr and his wife Mary and Matthew Kirk Adkins and his wife Monica, and many extended family members and friends.
A funeral service to honor the life of Kevin will be held on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, located at 2702 Panola Street, Catlettsburg, KY, beginning at 7pm with Brother Jack Powers officiating. Visitation for friends and family will take place prior to service from 4pm to 7pm. Kevin will be laid to rest on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11am at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery with Post 93 of Kenova, WV, and Active Duty providing Military Honors.
