as "PapaJon", with many additional step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great
great grandchildren on Mary's side.

Jonathan was a musician and enjoyed playing the drums, in his youth he was part of a band in
California where he grew up. Later he used this skill to play on the worship team at Faith
Community Church. As a young man he worked as a deep sea diver for abalone and fished for
tuna. At one time he owned and docked his own small fishing boat, the "Seahorse" at Morro Bay
in Santa Barbara, California. He eventually went to work for BBS-Bookkeepers Business
Service who transferred his family to Mundelein, Illinois. When that company went out of
business Jon and his family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where he started his own
bookkeeping and tax preparation company called Alert Accounting. In the 1980's he moved to
California to work for his sister, Mary, in her escrow business. Later, when he returned to
Kansas City he started Jon R. Belbeck Accounting Inc. Soon after, he met Mary at a client's office
and asked her to attend church with him.
What really mattered to Jon was helping others who struggled with substance abuse. He
understood from his own experience its grip on your life and mental health. He knew the
strength to leave it behind lay in more than a 12 step program. The answer was in embracing
Jesus Christ as Savior. Jon's favorite verse, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore if any man is in
Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." Jon
knew that a "new man" was truly possible in Christ. In an effort to share this truth, he began a
ministry called Anchor House. God used Jon to provide two halfway house locations for men
released from prison who needed a pathway to continued sobriety, work, and new life in Christ.
Jon eventually formed a small home repair construction company to help provide jobs for the
men of Anchor House. Under his care these men lived together, held each other accountable,
studied the Bible and were welcomed here to worship and grow in their faith by this local family
of God known as Faith Community Church. Jon would have liked his obituary to end with these
words, "To God be the glory."
Please help celebrate the life of Jon by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
