Jonathan Evan Cabrera passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home in Cypress, Texas, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the far-too-early age of 45. Born on October 2, 1979, in Zachary, Louisiana, he was the devoted son of Charles and Dior (Reith) Cabrera.
Jonathan is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Jennifer Cabrera, and their greatest blessings: his children, Anna Claire (19), Evan Andrew (17), Allie Grace (14), and Abby Kate (13). He is also survived by his parents, Charles and Dior Cabrera; brothers, David (Emma) Cabrera and Asher Cabrera; his nephews Rylan, Brayden, Kahlen and Cade; his nieces Kalli and Kaelynn; as well as his in-laws Terry and Jacquie Blackard and Tyler (Andrea) Blackard. He leaves behind countless friends who became family, including classmates from high school and college, colleagues from around the world during his time at Shell Oil, and members of his treasured "Circle of Trust."
Jonathan graduated from Scotlandville Magnet High School in 1997 and went on to attend the Virginia Military Institute on a soccer scholarship, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2001. Shortly after, he launched a distinguished 23-year career with Shell Oil Company, where he was presented with exceptional opportunities. These included relocating with his family to The Netherlands and later to Singapore, where they embarked on extraordinary adventures, exploring more than 20 countries together.
Jonathan's colleagues remember him as a passionate and inspiring leader who cared deeply for his team. He had a unique ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger and leaving everyone with a smile thanks to his sharp wit and endless sense of humor.
By far, Jonathan's greatest joy and achievement was his family. He was the kind of father who would say yes to anything and all of his children knew that Abby could motivate him like no one else. Sundays were reserved for car washes in the driveway and grocery store trips with his children, where laughter and silliness were guaranteed. Jonathan expressed his love through small, but meaningful gestures - crafting custom art pieces for birthday parties and leaving heartfelt notes of encouragement to his children.
Jonathan's life was rooted in faith and generosity, serving as a deacon at The Chapel in Baton Rouge and consistently helping others without seeking recognition. He was known to keep handwritten Bible verses in his pockets, his car and around the house as reminders of his unwavering faith.
Those fortunate enough to know Jonathan will remember him for his big smile, quick laugh, and generous spirit. He was deeply loved by everyone and his legacy of joy, effortless humor and devotion to family will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to remember his life at The Chapel – Baton Rouge, 3355 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge, 70802 on Saturday January 11, 2025 with visitation at 10:30AM and service at 11:30 AM and reception immediately to follow.

Very saddened to hear of his passing. Jonathan was my Line Manager for while in New Orleans, and was an excellent mentor and friend. He was a genuine person and impressed everyone he interacted with. He will be sorely missed.

Jonathan and me worked together on Vito. I remember we did an audit together where Jonathan did show a gentle but firm approach unravelling the complex matter into bite size pieces. Most of all I remember the joy of working with this ever so friendly man. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the kids.
