Jonathan (Jon) Stuart Cato of Valdosta, Georgia, 45, passed peacefully in his sleep after a short illness on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. He was born in Valdosta on November 9, 1976, to Diane Smith and Tom Cato. He graduated from Valdosta High School with honors in 1995 and was recognized by Who's Who Among American High School Students. He attended Valdosta State University for a few years before transferring to the Florida School of Massage in Ft. Myers, FL where he graduated in 2001 with his massage therapy license. Most recently, he worked for Zacadoo's Grill on Ashley St. in Valdosta, GA, while pursuing other passions.
He had a big heart and a wicked sense of humor. He was deeply devoted to his friends and family, especially his daughter, Diane Jasmine Cato, her siblings, Igdalia Alvarado, Maria Alvarado, Jonathan Alvarado, and his beloved cat, Luna. He had a passion for animals, including owls and hawks, and recently found joy in gardening. Jon is survived by his daughter, Diane Jasmine Cato of Campeche, Mexico; his mother, Diane Smith of Valdosta; his father, Tom and his wife, Milne Cato, of Savannah Georgia; his brother, Chris Cato and his wife, Kelly McGregor, of Geneva, Illinois; his sister, Pepper and her husband, Ash Croft, of Valdosta; his brother, Michael Cato of Atlanta, Georgia; his nephews, Tyler and Reed Croft; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Deane and James Smith, and his paternal grandparents, Mildred and Haskell Cato.
A "Celebration of Life" in honor of Jonathan Cato will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Valdosta at 1951 East Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA. 31602 at 2 pm on May 21, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jon's name to a charity of their choice. Please feel free to share any remembrances or pictures of Jon with his family.
Though Jon led a quiet life, he will be greatly missed.
