Jonathan David Cohen, 60, beloved husband, father, son, uncle, and friend, passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 8, 2024 at his home in Bowie, MD.
Jonny is survived by his beloved wife, Diane (Powers) Cohen, daughters Victoria (Tori) and Justine Cohen, mother Rhea (Singer) Cohen, siblings Jesse Cohen and Yael Konowe. He is also survived by nieces Rachel Peterson, Celia Konowe, Sara and Samantha Powers, and Cheyenne Cohen, and by nephews Cory Peterson, Cody Cohen, and Sean Powers. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Cohen.
Born on February 29, 1964, Jonny grew up in Greenbelt MD, finally settling in Bowie in 2002 with Diane, Tori, and Justine. Family was the most important thing in Jonny’s life, followed by his lifelong love of nature, music, sports, and space. He also loved his Greenbelt roots, and focused the last 25 years serving residents of Greenbelt through his business, JC Landscaping. He knew most of his customers since childhood. He was also known as a musician, having played drums for several years with his buddies in the band Silencer. He loved sports (Washington Redskins, Capitals, Jeff Gordon) almost as much as he loved space science.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715.
