Allow us to introduce Master Jonathan Michael Douglas! He has many nicknames: John, Pepsi, Gun N Run, Jo-Nathan, John John, and J-Weezy. His father called him Son and "The Boy" (affectionately). His mother called him Jonathan and Jay.
Jonathan came into this world and forever into our hearts on November 19, 2002 at North Kansas City Hospital. His father, Benjamin, Jr. smiled and beamed with pride-Jonathan's birth changed his life forever. Daphnye, his mother, fell forever in love with his beautiful, angelic, bright red face. Jonathan was a bundle of perfection, a gift from God. The night Jonathan was born was the night his Uncle Benje sat outside watching The Leonid meteor shower, which had up to 200 shooting stars per hour. We believed that was heaven announcing Jonathan's arrival. He held the position of only child until his best friend and little sister, Lydia, whom he affectionately called Lyd, made her debut 10 years later. She lovingly called him Brother.
Jonathan was no stranger to the Word of God, and dedicated his life to following the principles and teachings of the Bible. At his initial baby dedication (Antioch Bible Baptist Church), he was given a life verse: Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. He called Harmony Vineyard Church his spiritual home, where he was baptized, grew up, attended AWANA, Youth Group and more. He was raised going to church 3-6 days a week.
Jonathan was highly intelligent all throughout his life and educational career. He was educated in the North Kansas City School District, graduating from Staley High School in 2021. His academic gifts allowed him to score in the 99th percentile on standardized tests, landing him in advanced classes our boy was smart! Jonathan was selected as a People To People Student Ambassador, which allowed him to travel abroad to France and England before he ever entered middle school!
Let's reflect on Jonathan's indelible impact, special skills and attributes:
Amazing Earthly Citizen-never knew a stranger and loved to visit friends and family of all ages. Jonathan's bright and beautiful smile drew people in. His earthly body housed a pure soul.
Chef–made a mean batch of grape Koolaid, he pan seared chicken like a pro, knew his way around a delicious pot of spaghetti, perfectly seasoned green beans and his brownies were always top notch!
Musician–played trumpet and even penned and performed a few rap songs under his alias, Gun N Run!
Gamer–an X-Box expert!
Comedian-Jonathan knew exactly what to say to get a laugh out of anyone, regardless of how they were feeling.
Medical Genius-he could tell you the chemical compounds, side effects, and benefits to medicines, and which medicines were good for certain types of ailments. He hated to see others suffer. Jonathan was a natural helper. We all thought he would be a doctor.
Jonathan is sorely missed, but he is free from all pain and suffering. We celebrate his life because he was a treasure to our family. We humbly ask that when Jonathan comes to mind, remember him for all of the goodness he ushered forth, or, refer back to his life scripture of Proverbs 3:5-6.
"Jay" leaves on this side of heaven his mother and father, Daphnye Ramsey (Nathaniel Kelly) and Benjamin Douglas, Jr. (Melody Nelson).; his sister and bestie, Lydia Douglas; his grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin Douglas, Sr. (Viola), Elizabeth Ford and Rebeca Jobst. Jonathan spent countless hours with Grandma "Liz" and Becky who were always in his corner; two uncles: Benje Douglas (Kristy Douglas) and Demetrius Ford, Sr. (Crystal Miller); an aunt: Benita Wolff (Gregory Wolff); and a loving ensemble of great aunts and uncles, cousins, church family and friends.
Jonathan Michael Douglas is now and forever with his Lord and Savior.
