Jonathan Guerin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Mortuary - Las Vegas on Dec. 18, 2023.
Jonathan Scot Guerin departed this earthly life unexpectedly at his home in Chicago, IL on December 6, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, adventure, joy, and love. Jonathan embraced life with a passion for exploration and a deep appreciation for the world's diverse cultures, landscapes, and all of God's "critters".
Born on August 27, 1974, in Las Vegas, NM, Jonathan embarked on countless journeys throughout his lifetime, whether job related or traveling with friends, he broadened his horizons and created lasting memories. From the bustling streets of Mexico City to the hills of Austria, from Sydney to Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Norway, Iceland, and Maui or wandering through the African savanna, water rafting on the world's longest rivers, Jonathan found inspiration and fulfillment in every new experience. His visits back home to NM always boosted the familial bond which included his favorite Northern New Mexico cuisine, trips to the mountains to grandparents' cabin in El Porvenir and relaxing at Rancho Maese.
Jonathan embraced the opportunity for adventure from an early age. After graduating from Robertson High School in Las Vegas, NM he completed a study abroad program earning a BA in Communications - Broadcast Journalism & Spanish from New Mexico Highlands University and the Center for European Studies (Centro de Estudios Europeos) Madrid, Spain. Subsequently, He expanded his knowledge in international business studies at the University of New Mexico where he earned his MA in Latin American Studies/International Management & Political Science at the Universidad de Guadalajara, in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Jonathan's unique education afforded him an incredible career in public relations, journalism and international relations. He began his career as an Associate Producer for KOAT - TV followed by PR Account Executive at Rick, Johnson & Co. in Albuquerque, NM. In 2002, he moved to Seattle, Washington to be a Public Relations Manager for The Home Depot - Northwest Division. In 2015, Jonathan located to Chicago, Illinois where he started an 8-year-long career with U.S. Cellular, followed by a long and rewarding career as Senior Public Relations Manager and spokesman for United Airlines. Much of Jonathan's work can be found in many of the articles he wrote during the challenges of the pandemic, which served as a unique time for all, especially the public relations industry. In his most current role as Director of U.S. Corporate Reputation at Mars, he was able to fuel his passion for animal welfare. Jonathan was at the forefront of many initiatives to support veterinary education programs and lately, worked alongside Katie Couric to encourage pet adoption.
His vibrant spirit and infectious enthusiasm brightened the lives of those around him, leaving an unforgettable impression on family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Known for his incredible sense of humor, warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others, he connected with people from all walks of life, and cherished relationships wherever he went.
Though Jonathan left this world far too soon - he lived. He lived in every trip he took, he lived in every life he touched, he lived in every word he wrote, he lived in the people he helped - HE LIVED. He embodied the phrase he often used "Giddy up", when he felt compelled to do something, he did it. He made sure that everyone in his life knew how much he loved them and each friend and family member had their own unique relationship and language with him.
Jonathan is preceded in death by his father, Don Guerin Jr, sister Danielle Guerin, paternal grandfather Don Guerin Sr, maternal grandmother Consuelo Trujillo, aunt Carmen Tafoya, uncle Tony Trujillo, cousins Tony Trujillo Jr, and Tanya Trujillo.
