Dr. Jonathan Ronald Jowers

Dr. Jonathan Ronald Jowers passed away Friday, March 7th at Marshall Pines Memory Care Center. He was 87. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 11th, at 3 o'clock in the Posey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Cathy Jamieson and Dr. T. Joseph Lusk officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 o'clock. Graveside Services will be conducted Wednesday, March 12th, at 12 noon in Bethany Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery in Ambrose, GA.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Faye Merritt Jowers, sons Ronald Anthony Jowers and Jonathan Kirk Jowers, and two stepchildren Melanie Farmer Frazier (Scott) and Wayne P. Farmer, II. His grandchildren Matthew Travis Tutle, Jessica Frazier Carrillo and Benjamin Frazier have happy memories riding motorcycles, jet skies, skiing and fishing with Papa Doc.
Dr. Jowers grew up on the family farm with his sisters AnnaSue Tanner, Maxell Jowers, and DeLane Johnson in Ambrose, Ga. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Pharmacy and was an avid Bulldog! He thought being a pharmacist was a great way to put yourself through medical school. He graduated from MCG Augusta and opened his family practice in Martinez, Ga in 1966 where he served the community for 54 years.
In his medical capacity he was a servant to the community in his role as Medical Examiner for the state division of Forensic Sciences as well as the Federal Aviation Administration, Columbia County Coroner, Columbia County Detention Center Physician and the Evans High School Football Physician.
Dr. Jowers' full and active life was filled with his many passions. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve for 7 years. He loved airplanes and flying so much that on weekends he flew in his Piper Tri-Pacer to Waycross, Ga to staff and work the emergency room. Dr. J also provided flight physicals to numerous pilots in the area.
He loved cool cars and was a member of the Dixie Wheels. He could also be found on Clark's Hill boating and fishing for fun.
We will miss him!

Active pallbearers will be Daniel Paulk, Caleb Vickers, Gideon Vickers, and Mike Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Stillwell Sunday School Class.
