Jonathan Kraper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2025.
Jonathan "Jon" Kraper, 71, of Golconda, Illinois, passed away on December 1, 2025. A loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many, Jon leaves behind a legacy of devoted friendships, a penchant for fun and storytelling, and a willingness to always lend a helping hand-qualities that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Paul Rocuant; his cherished grandchildren, Raine, Rebecca, and Ryan Rocuant; his former spouse Paula Kraper; his uncle Harry Curtis (Mitzi); his siblings, Curt Kraper (Ruth), George "Yotts" Kraper (Jim), Tom Kraper, and Charlotte Anderson (Thad); along with their families and several nieces and nephews, including Andrew Wells, Justin Kraper, Wesley Kraper, and Kelsey Kraper. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Kraper and Amy Lou Bannon (Johnie).

Jon was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a longtime member of American Legion Post 0719. He retired after many years of dedicated service with the Illinois Department of Corrections.

An avid outdoorsman, Jon found joy and peace in nature-whether hunting squirrel, turkey, or deer, or fishing along the Ohio River. He loved cooking for family and friends, using food as a way to bring people together, and was a lifelong, devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

A memorial service/celebration of Jon's life will be held in Golconda in the spring of 2026. Details will be announced at a later date.
