Jonathon Holland Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home - EFFINGHAM on Mar. 23, 2026.
Jonathon K. "Jon" Holland, age 44, of Effingham IL, passed away on March 21st, 2026, surrounded by his family and many loved ones.

Private family services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL, with burial in Mahon Cemetery, rural Altamont. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.

Jon was born on January 3, 1982. He graduated from Altamont High School in 2000, and afterwards went on to get his Business and Civil Engineering degrees. Jon fought a brief, but fierce battle against cancer, determined to fight 'til the end..and he did so with dignity, courage and strength. His love for life was exceeded only by his love for his family. Jon leaves behind his loving, dedicated wife, Jessica Haarmann Holland, his son, Hunter (special friend, Maddie Rieman), of whom he was proud beyond measure, and daughter Rhylee, the light of his life and 'favorite' daughter, as he often referred to her. Jon's greatest accomplishment was being their dad, and he was, as they told him often, the best dad they could ever have.

Also left to grieve are his parents, Jim (Lynn) Holland, Mason, IL; Becky (Ira) May, Newton IL, and parents-in-law, Doug and Peggy Haarmann, Effingham, IL.

If one's life was measured by the friends he has, Jon's life was one to be envied. To have friends as he had, is to be rich, indeed, and each, I know, will keep his memory alive.

Jon enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family. He'd taught his children how to hunt and fish at a young age, to play pool, tell corny jokes, and above all, to be good, kind, and loving young adults. He was always the devoted dad. Whether it was cheering them on at a sporting event, showing livestock at the county fair, or watching his daughter on the pageant stage, he was always there for them, supportive and proud.

He loved his music and he loved his Packers..go Pack go...and on more than one occasion he could be heard proclaiming "da Bears still suck!". Jon was also a valuable member of the 2025 On the Rox championship pool team.

Jon will greatly be missed by his siblings, Lyndsae (Dustin) Roberts, Greenfield, OH, Alec (Kayla) Westrich, Newton IL, and Jennifer Holland, Livingston MT; brothers-in-law, DJ (Jackie) Haarmann and Travis (Lauren) Haarmann; "Brothers from another mother", Nathan Baker, Guelph Ontario and Jackson Loy, Altamont IL; and nieces and nephews, with whom he took immense pleasure in teasing, Ellie, Emelia, Ainzley and Annaliese Haarmann, Waylon Haarmann, Adalynn, Livia and Grady Westrich, and soon-to-be, Owen Roberts. Jonathon is prayerfully remembered by his grandmothers, Ruth Holland and Phyllis Haarmann, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Holland; grandmother, Georgianna Ray; and grandfather, Vernon "Bun" Ray, aunt, Bunny Sparks and cousin, Brian Ray.
