WORCESTER - Jordan Levy, former Worcester Mayor and City Councilor, Massachusetts Governor's Councilor, business executive, and radio personality, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 5th at Jewish Healthcare in Worcester after a brief illness.
Born in Worcester in 1943 to the late Rachel (Sher) and Benjamin Levy, he grew up on Vernon Hill and was proud of his blue-collar upbringing. He graduated from Worcester Junior College and pursued a successful business career, working for many years at Parker Affiliated Companies where he became President and CEO.
He was passionate about public service and always worked to make his community, state, and country better. He served as Worcester City Councilor for almost 20 years, as one of the most popularly elected officials of all-time, and served as Mayor for six years. He served two terms on the Massachusetts Governor's Council and then was appointed to the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for seven years. He was chair of the Worcester Licensing Commission for ten years and was chair of the Worcester State College (WSC) Board of Trustees, and also served as President of the WSC Foundation. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from WSC. He was also active in many other organizations, and was a 33d degree Mason, Past Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias, Jewish National Fund Man of the Year, among many other awards and honors.
Jordan was never shy about expressing his opinion and never met an argument he couldn't win. As host of The Jordan Levy Show on WTAG in Worcester, he exemplified the best in local talk radio. His guests included politicians, celebrities, and members of the Worcester community, who faithfully listened, called in, and supported Jordan and his show for 30 years.
His greatest joy came from being a proud, loving, and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years Maxine Levy (Levine) and was the cherished father of Tammi Levy-Cantor and Dr. Mike Cantor of Newton, Sherri Beth Carpineto and her husband Joseph of Marblehead, and was a devoted grandfather to Samson and Lily Cantor, and Harrison and Will Carpineto. He was predeceased by his sister Frances Weiner, and his mother-in-law Lily Levine.
A Funeral Service will be held at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive in Worcester at 11am on Monday, October 9, 2023, followed by graveside service and interment at Holy Society Cemetery, Havana Road, Leicester, MA. After interment, Shiva/visiting hours will be at Congregation Beth Israel until 5pm. Shiva/visiting hours will also be held on Tuesday, October 10, from 10 am-1pm at Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester and that evening from 5-8 pm at the Levy-Cantor/Cantor home in Newton. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The family thanks the Jewish Healthcare Center and Eisenberg Assisted Living for their wonderful care.

Doesn't seem like you ever left sometimes . WE all miss you here in Worcester. I remember campaigning outside Upsala. Street School for your first political run. You were a great mayor, and we loved you on the radio for so many years.
You made common sense ,and you made all our lives enjoyable.
Rest in peace Mr Levy you are loved by many. And missed by many on your first anniversary of leaving us

I've several pleasant memories to share, but nothing that might matter to those reading them. What I want to share, is my admiration for someone who represents the highest standards of citizenship, in an era when the nobility associated with the virtues of true Americanism have fallen out of favor. Mr Levy (dear Jordan) you will be missed. You were a leader of our entire community. God grant you rest. With Greatest Respect,
John (Jack) McClintock

Jordan Levy´s zeal for what was best for Worcester was evident in all that he did! Grateful that Mr. Levy´s family shared him with the Worcester citizens all those years.
May his family find peace at this difficult time.

I met him for the first time at a fundraiser when he was running for City council.
I ended up carrying a Levy sign near a polling place. And of course he won.
I knew him through his sister's husband, that my husband at the time worked with.
To me he was The Rush Limbaugh of Massachusetts.
Very impressed how much he loved the city very of Worcester.
My sincerest condolences to his family, and his radio family.
You will be missed. RIP
